Biking is less expensive than commuting or driving motored vehicle. It isn't affected much by heavy traffic. Pedaling keeps carbon footprint on minimum level and maximizes community service output. Biking produces less greenhouse gases and pollutants since it doesn't involve the use of fossil fuel. Besides promoting environmentalism, biking encourages eco-tourism, sport and healthy living. These are the reasons why I prefer biking over any other means of transportation when going to work, community service area or jump-off of a target mountain peak.
I call an activity bisakyateering, from the words bisikleta (bicycle) and akyat (climb). It's a combination of long distance bicycling and hiking or trekking which are oftentimes accompanied with community service. Of the three components, community service is the most difficult since it's the most time and resource-consuming. The community service part often involves reforestation, clean up and or indigenous people language preservation.
